Broken record | a poem

I’m sorry, you’ve probably heard this one before
But that’s just who I am:
The storms in my mind run in a loop,
My demons run in circles.

And so I sing, the same old songs
With the same old broken heart
Pain comes in different shades
And I am covered in all of them

I know so many words
Yet my mouth can only pronounce the same ones
Over and over and over and
Over, I spit this broken melody
Into the half-open ears of a busy pub
Hoping someone will hear it and,
Once and for all, hear me–

Hear my heart,
Feel my pulse for me, and tell me,
Yes — it is still beating;
Yes — you are alive.

I’ll scream my songs at the wall
Wishing they’d bounce off it and back to me
So I can hear it beat too.
But they are so hollow,
They go right through.

And so I sing the same old songs
With the same old broken heart
Pain comes in different shades
I want to taste all of them

I’m sorry, you’ve probably heard this one before,
But this is just who I am.

Haven’t written a poem in a while, but this one took over me while I was at work this morning (so I had to email it to myself; haha) and I think it’s not bad for a rusty bag of brains.
